Diabetes Classes 2008

Enjoy a diabetes class, see the dentist and foot doctor, if you wish to have your blood sugar and blood pressure checked or need to have your prescriptions refilled, you may register to see a provider.

All Classes are held at Gateway CAMcare Health Corporation - 817 Federal St. Classes are free. Patients are charged their normal co-pay to see a provider. Family is invited, but also must sign up.

If you have transportation problems you can contact our Social Worker, Ella Murphy for assistance at (856) 541-8217.

Classes are held 4 times a year- the FIRST and SECOND TUESDAY OF THE MONTH, alternating Spanish with English.

You can sign up at your own CAMcare office. The diabetes team will call you the night before class to remind you of class and make sure you have transportation.

Clases De Diabetes 2008

Todas las clases se reunen en CAMcare Gateway, 817 Federal St. La clase empieza a las 9:00 AM ó 1:00PM (VEA EL HORARIO). Si desea ver al proveedor de salud el costo es el "co-pay". Si tiene problemas de transportación llame a Ella Murphy (541-8217).

Las clases se reunen 4 veces al año - PRIMER Y SEGUNDO MARTES DEL MES, alternando en inglés y español.

En cada clínica de CAMcare encontrará una hoja para apuntar su nombre en la recepción.

Ophthalmology/Optometry 2008

CAMcare Health Corporation and the NJ Commission for the Blind Opthalmology/Optometry schedule for 2008. Classes will take place on the 3rd Monday of each month 3:00 - 6:00pm at the Gateway Specialty Suite, 817 Federal St., Camden, NJ 08103.

Camden City Cancer Initiative - Improving
Access to Health Care

Every individual has the right to health care. And the American Cancer Society is helping Camden City residents to exercise that right.

What started as a simple idea in February 2006—to help educate and screen people in Camden City—has turned into a broad partnership that includes city officials, health care providers, colleges, and help from the state’s Free Screening program, the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Program. Since its inception, the Camden City Cancer Initiative has already screened more than 100 people.

“A large portion of Camden is underserved, with little or no health insurance, and little knowledge about cancer detection,” said Plyshette Wiggins, Director of Community Health Initiatives for the American Cancer Society.

“We owe our community the chance to live healthy lives, to prevent cancer, or detect it early—so we bring our message to schools, soup kitchens, churches, and many community events,” said Wiggins.

Among the Camden City Cancer Initiative partners is CamCare, a Camden-based health corporation. CamCare's Director of Community Health Care, Joye Rozier, coordinates screening events and wants to recreate a community of caring in Camden.

“I grew up here and remember the close community we had—like a small village. Everyone took care of everyone else, and I want that feeling to be restored” said Ms Rozier. “We must educate, and teach our daughters how to take care of themselves, so they can take care of their children. This is the only way to stop disease.”

Ms. Rozier believes that people desire to be healthy—they just don’t know how. So she helps to bring health care to them. On May 14th, for example, women can obtain a free or low-cost mammogram—thanks to Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Mobile Mammography van.

“Too many people fall through the cracks,” Ms. Rozier said. “But they have a right to health care, and we’re going to deliver.”
